Hey, I'm not even the owner of the chromecast in question, but I clicked on one facebook video, accidentally hit a chromecast button instead of the fullscreen, and now there's a chromecast button on all my youtube videos too. I will never want to use the chromecast, and I don't want to accidentally stream to the living room, or whatever TV the thing is connected to. I also don't want the icon on all my videos. I do not have the extension, apparently this is just built into chrome now, but I can't find any way to disable it. I can see why people like chromecast devices, but this is one of the most frustrating experiences I've had with chrome yet.
Sep 5, 2018 - Play your downloaded videos on the Chromecast™ (any file type). Your Chromecast or Android TV directly from your computer (PC, Mac, Linux). 2.15.421.1 -- 4/21/2015 - Created extension to add shortcut to Videostream.
Why does it feel like it's being forced on me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: I emphasized that my computer is now associated to a device I do not own. It is not mine to use. I will never stream to that chromecast yet it is now associated on everything I could stream to a chromecast. I am trying to disassociate from it. So even if I do get a device, like a speaker, that I could stream to, I do not want someone else's devices connected to mine.
Is it not like the list of wi-fi networks you phone or computer saves? There's something I do not want to connect to can I not just remove it from a list?
I've been searching this for three days, and came here to see if enthusiasts had any input. Fine, the button will stay then, but can I at least remove someone else's device from my computer? EDIT2: (skip to edit 3) Thanks for the answers.
In summary, to anyone looking with a similar situation (as I know sometimes these posts show up on google search), yeah, it will stay there, but it's nearly impossible to accidentally stream to a chromecast, it's enough steps and enough mouse-moving that it really is super unlikely to happen unless you plan on using it. EDIT3: Two years later gave me an actual solution in chrome. Here is a real solution for your thread -. Chrome://flags/#load-media-router-component-extension and choose disable then restart chrome This completely removes the cast button from videos. Source: EDIT4: In retrospect, I look down and see another user suggested this, I tried this then, and now, and it didn't work either time.
However, it looks like this has worked for many users before. YMMV. You aren't 'tied' to anything. It is just showing you that 'hey buddy, there's a chromecast in your general vicinity on your network, would you like to cast to it?'
The Chromecast is doing nothing but serving stuff it is asked to cast, as long as it is on your same network, it will show up as available. Considering it's a roommate probably sharing internet, it will never go away. But again it is not tied to anything. Yes if you have several Chromecast in a home, when you go to cast they all show up, there is no way to remove them, there is no way to set up a specific one for you except by name, as long as you are on the same network. I think the only option would be to somehow set up a separate network that uses the same internet access but connects to a separate network. This will be more trouble than it's worth just to get rid of an icon on your videos. Don't worry, he can't get anything off your device, the chromecast is simply listening for a signal, it isn't tied to anything.
I wouldn't hold your breath, but good luck. I imagine the number of people that connect a chromecast to a network they share with people they don't want to have access to the chromecast is niche, to say the least. If you are sharing a network there are far more sinister things you have the ability to do than what essentially amounts to changing the channel on someone's TV. Imagine the chromecast device in your common room and it's primary use case begins to make sense when both of you can queue up funny youtube clips and share a laugh.
